Kentucky Smart on Crime applauds the passage of Senate Bill 120 from Senate Judiciary this morning.
This legislation is a good first start toward public safety improvements that seek to put people who have been convicted of crimes back to work so they don¹t return to crime and prison. SB 120 is a good first step toward a smarter, more effective justice system that holds people accountable and provides a pathway back to a productive life for those who’ve served their time.
SB 120 enjoys broad support from Republican and Democratic lawmakers, the governor and organizations representing a wide swath of Kentuckians, from the business community to victims’ advocates, from jailers to churches. And we know from a poll conducted earlier this year that justice reform enjoys support from voters of all stripes in the Commonwealth.
We urge the Senate to move toward swift passage of this measure.
